Is it safe?
When done in a professional manner there is no cause to worry about infection or any disease. To insure this look for the following:
A. New needles from a sealed sterile autoclave package (an autoclave is a high temperature, high pressure, steam, hospital type sterilizer). The packaging will have an indicator that is pink or tan that turns black when run through a cycle in the sterilizer. Ask to see the indicator on the package before you get a tattoo and insist the seal be broken in front of you. Health care professionals do not recognize dry heat sterilizers as being an effective form of sterilization. For more detailed explanation of this CLICK HERE
B. Individual ink cups. The artist should take new, small ink cups and fill them up for your use only. After the tattoo is completed any remaining ink will be discarded. The same applies to any portions of petroleum jelly used.
C. All cleaning and wiping cloths should be new. Paper towels and Kleenex are acceptable and should be used once and thrown away.
If you go
to a tattoo shop and they don't follow these procedures then just
leave. We are able to say at Hobo's tattoo shop we
follow very strict guidelines not only in our cleanliness, but the
skill we apply to our craft.
